Why Biomarkers

Biomarkers are the traceable biological characteristics of an individualThey range from our genetic blueprint, to proteins in the blood  or immune cell populations.

Patients respond differently to drugs. Quartz Bio uses computational approaches to identify patient sub-groups that will benefit the most from a treatment. This is performed by analysing biomarker data from clinical trials. For example, specific genetic mutations present in a group of patients may interfere with the drug's efficacy. Once identified, the biological characteristics of these patient groups can be taken into account for future clinical studies or for the generation of diagnostic kits. This process, is termed Stratified Medicine or Precision Medicine.

Precision Medicine lies at the border between clinical development and fundamental research. As such it requires different expertises. Quartz Bio provides the Clinical, Biotechnological, Computational and Statistical expertise necessary for the successful implementation of Precision Medicine approaches.
